Japanese Garden Project – Short Film
Two Aurovilians, Noel from the USA and Jyoti from Japan have started the Japanese garden project in Auroville Botanical gardens in 2015. This project is dedicated to the creation of a modern Japanese garden devoted to Peace. Although there was a shortage in funds they managed with in-kind donations and volunteers to start the project. It uses locally sourced plants and materials. They extensively chose recycled materials in order to contribute to sustainability that is aligned with Japanese garden making. Gradually they received more support from different parts of the world and, though the fundraising efforts of Noel they managed to manifest their dream to this present state.
Work is still ongoing and there is still lots of detail work to be done, but the garden is finally ready to welcome visitors. They wish this garden to be a living prayer for peace and harmony.

Design process to give back
Our journey of praising the beauty of nature and discovery of its meticulous work has no end.
In this time of global pandemic we are forced to shift our way of living into a sustainable one.
Our culture needs to be re-aligned to giving back instead of taking and consuming.
There is no waste in nature’s marvelous production. There is only an eternal cycle of life in which any design process has to seek a source of inspiration and be anchored as a heart of common sense.

A garden with a terrace
This is our first completed project since Covid-19. We aimed to bring serene atmosphere in this terrace and garden. Working through social distancing and wearing masks made us contemplative about the future and our relation with nature. We believe we artists and designers could offer a lot in this time of paradigm shift.
